Wine for Women

There has to be nothing more divine after a stressful work day, than to pour a glass of red wine. Red wine has been scientifically proven to prevent heart disease, some cancers, eases the symptoms of arthritis and just tastes delightful! In the search of a fabulous bottle of wine, there are some considerations to keep in mind. This prevents a scrunched face of disapproval.

Taste Test

It's understandable, you need to have your wrist twisted to get out there and taste test. Honestly, it is the best way to select what you like. This will determine if you enjoy fruity and fresh or more musky and rich. Take a moment to gather your girlfriends and schedule a wine testing.

Smell Test

Like anything in life, you need to guarantee you will enjoy the taste somewhat. And, like most anything where there is good, there is bad. No gasping! Yes, bad wine does exist! If in a restaurant, ask to smell the cork. No worries, you simply look like a grandiose wine connoisseur. Smelling the cork helps to determine if the wine was stored poorly or just a product of terrible wine-making. Smelling the cork helps to determine if 2 4 6- Trichloroanisole exists. Was that a mouthful? For pronunciation sake, call it TCA.

TCA is basically a powerful chemical that exists in natural corks which can ruin a good bottle of wine. It's rare but does exist. The chemicals can include chlorine, mold and other chemicals from plants called phenol. While it is safe overall to ingest, it just isn't tasty and causes the scrunchy face. If the wine was promised to be fruity or rich and it just tastes flat or "corky" it may be a victim of TCA.

Travel Globally, Locally

Regions have an influential role in how wine tastes as well. Know what country to select from when you visit your local grocer or restaurant. French reds are very diverse, and they develop sweeter bases like Sherry. If you prefer a larger base of sweet wines visit the Portugal menu of Baga, Tinto Cao or Periquita.

Granted, there are also amazing wines stemming from the US, especially California, Washington and Oregon and Zinfandel is a delightful sweet. Sample France for dry wine selections such as Merlot, Caberney Sauvignon or Malbec. Spain's Tempranillio and California's Pinot Noir's are also delightful. From Spain, Argentina, Italy, Germany and the United States, travel globally within a wine glass.

The Final Word

Explore your senses and taste buds when discovering the world of wine. Visit local wine flights, wine tastings and explore what you like. It is a fantastic time to spend time with your girlfriends. In addition, you can learn to pair reds with dishes like pasta, dessert and even, yes! Chocolate.
